Shannon Nelson placed first in Grand Veteran Women. The team of Shannon Nelson and Janelle Arnold placed second in the Veteran 2-lady relay.

CHEYENNE RMR SKATERS COMPETE IN AUSTIN

RMR skaters from Cheyenne competed at the Mid America Speed League meet in Austin Texas in March. Everyone skated very well and brought home numerous awards. If anyone has pictures from the Austin meet and would like to send them to me, I'll put them in the April newsletter

A FEW WORDS FROM THE PRES

We are Rocky Mountain! Although we may not actually shout that out when we attend meets, the uni-form we wear sends that message loud and clear. We represent our entire team and our actions reflect not only on ourselves but on our team, our coaches, and our rink. I hope that other skaters see our uniform and think of us as hard working competitors who never give up but who respect the rules and win through su-perior skill not "dirty tricks". We all need to remem-ber that the purpose of practice is to learn to skate well, not to learn how to get away with "bending" the rules so the ref doesn't catch you. We're all part of the same team. Let's help each other to get better. Instead of trying to knock each other down let's learn to throw a good pass. Getting DQ'ed won't win the race. And skating over-aggressively during practice only leads to serious falls and injuries. There have been too many injuries in Brighton over the past few months, one of our skaters has been off for nearly two months due to a back injury. Regionals and Nationals are coming up on us very soon, this is not the time to suffer an injury and a set back in training. We need to skate hard but not foolishly. We want to be in peak physical condition for competition and that means we need to be in one com-plete unbroken piece. Dragging around a cast or skat-ing with a brace is not the ideal situation for winning the race.
Keep on rollin' Randy

Good News! Congratulations, Danielle Huffman, KOAA high school athlete of the week. Danielle was featured on both the 6 and 10 pm KOAA newscasts on March 11 and was also recog-nized at her school. Way to go, Danielle! Congratulations, Sam Selvidge. Sam was "knighted", a special honor bestowed on exceptional students at Vikan Middle School (the Vikan Knights). Sam earned this honor with his high grade average and perfect attendance. He was awarded a Knight hoodie and special privileges. Great work, Sam.
